3 Ways to Minimise your Acne Scarring

Acne is one of the skin conditions we see most commonly here at Plume. Clients come to us looking for help with flare ups, but also with acne scarring and pigmentation, and we’d consider ourselves experts in helping clients minimise their acne scarring! If this is a skin condition you’re struggling with, here’s a few tips for how you can minimise your acne scars:

Plume Holistic Skin How to minimise acne scarring
  1. Try micro needling. Micro needling uses precision, medical grade needles to stimulates an ‘injury’ response in the skin, which stimulates collagen production. As a result, acne scars will diminish over time. You can also purchase a take-home micro needling roller to continue with the treatment at home. We recommend the MTS brand, which you can pick up in-clinic.

  2. Use the correct topical treatment. We use Dermaviduals exclusively in-clinic because these products allow us to formulate custom skin care treatments for our clients, particularly those who struggle with acne. We create a specialised mix of products including serum blends to help with cell renewal which minimises acne scarring. However, the ingredients we leave out are just as important. Dermaviduals don’t use any AHA’s or BHA’s, which can disrupt the skin barrier, leaving skin more susceptible to acne in the first place.

  3. Try to avoid scarring in the first place! Yes, it can be very difficult to resist the urge to squeeze, pick and over-exfoliate, but here at Plume we would recommend a treatment that keeps the skin’s barrier intact (no overzealous exfoliation!) to prevent spreading the bacteria that cause pimples. We’d also recommend a series of sessions of customised Max+ LED treatments which not only reduce the redness and inflammation but encourage cell regeneration, so spots heal faster. The blue light of the Max+ LED treatment also kills the bacteria that causes pimples in the first place. Painless and very effective!
